A James Monroe Highland Wedding is an especially unique place to have a wedding at. At the present time, it is a fully functioning historical site. Therefore this space is very appealing to couples who highly value history and rustic charm.
James Monroe Highland does not put a cap on the amount of weddings they host each year. Though they only host one private event per day, ensuring that each couple has access and is able to use the photo locations that they wish.
A James Monroe Highland Wedding can host up to 200 guests. As a result couples can feel free to invite many family and friends. In addition to the stunning views and rich history, the Highland has a smaller and larger ceremony site. Additionally they also have a covered reception space and a courtyard perfect for cocktail hour. Occasionally the venue hosts larger events, but special accommodations must be made to incorporate additional guests in the space.
In addition to the features I have noted, a James Monroe Highland Wedding also offers a variety of amenities. When a couple books their wedding at Highland, they receive access to:
Highland does not have on-site catering but they have a great list of caters you can choose from! Additionally, guests have access to the main parking lot and an additional overflow parking lot. Highland can accommodate about 150 vehicles in these areas, including larger vehicles such as motor coaches.
If you are the kind of couple who likes to party, James Monroe also caters to you! There is room for both a bar and live music on the property, so go ahead and check that off your list!
Highland is a site, truly rich in history. As a historic house museum, and former presidential home, the property’s history extends centuries into the past. The team at Highland encourage any wedding guests to explore the stories that are told here. In addition, they offer wedding guests the opportunity to visit our museum exhibit spaces during the event!
Highland was the home of fifth president James Monroe, his family, and the enslaved men and women that lived and worked on the property. The property changed hands several times after Monroe sold the property, and it has remained a working farm and historic site ever since.
For this reason, hosting your wedding at Highland is an act of philanthropy. A portion of the proceeds from private events is used to further research, expand educational programming, and fund historic preservation of the house and grounds. Therefore, by hosting your wedding at Highland you are helping this site continue to teach the importance of the history behind the space.
